Mountain Peak

The Vision

Sarah and her husband Jeremy have completed their second attempt at climbing Kilimanjaro in August 2024. This time around, they were facing new challenges and obstacles, but they were determined to conquer the mountain and achieve their goal.

In August 2024, Sarah, along with her family, including her two daughters aged 10 and 13, embarked on an ambitious journey to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 meters / 19,340 feet).

This climb holds special significance as it marks her return to the place she visited just weeks before her accident, symbolizing her determination to reclaim her life.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, UK – Sarah de Lagarde, in an awe-inspiring display of courage and resilience, has successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro, achieving this incredible feat on 14 August 2024 at 6:20 am. This makes her the first woman to reach the top of Kilimanjaro with two prosthetics, setting a new benchmark for what is possible and becoming a beacon of hope for many around the world.

Accompanied by her husband Jeremy, their daughters, and a dedicated team including medical professionals Kat Sizer and Cat Weber, Sarah embarked on an arduous 82km hike. The journey spanned over five days, challenging the team with a daily ascent of 1,500 meters and an intense 16-hour effort on summit day. Their expedition, supported by local guides from Alika Africa, highlighted not only the physical challenges of such an endeavour but the unyielding human spirit.

In a deeply moving part of her journey, Sarah visited a centre for prosthetics and rehabilitation in Moshi, where she connected with individuals facing similar challenges. This visit underscored the importance of her climb, not just as a personal achievement but as a powerful message of hope and solidarity with amputees worldwide.

The climb served a greater purpose beyond the personal triumph; it was a mission to raise awareness and funds for STAND, a charity aiding amputees in conflict zones and developing countries. With a fundraising goal of £25,000, Sarah’s campaign is a testament to her dedication to giving back and supporting communities in need.

“Standing atop Kilimanjaro was a moment of triumph over adversity, not just for me but for everyone who has faced and overcome challenges,” Sarah said. “Visiting the prosthetics centre in Moshi was incredibly humbling. It reminded me why we embarked on this journey - to inspire and help others to see beyond their limitations.”

The support from corporate sponsors, including Janus Henderson, the Investment Association, Purple Transform, and Rothesay, has been invaluable, helping to amplify Sarah’s message and contribute to the fundraising efforts for STAND.

As Sarah and her family reflect on their monumental achievement, they continue to encourage support for their cause, inviting the global community to contribute to their fundraising efforts. Their journey is a compelling reminder of the power of hope, determination, and the impact of collective action.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, UK – In a testament to human resilience and the power of hope, Sarah de Lagarde, alongside her husband Jeremy and their two daughters, are set to embark on an extraordinary adventure in August 2024. Their mission to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro carries a profound message of resilience, hope, and the spirit of giving back. What sets this climb apart is Sarah's incredible journey as a double prosthetic wearer, poised to become the first woman with a prosthetic leg and arm to scale the heights of Kilimanjaro, doing so astonishingly less than two years after a life-changing incident.

Sarah's life was irrevocably changed in September 2022 after a harrowing accident involving two London Underground trains. Demonstrating an indomitable spirit, she transformed this near-death experience into a narrative of survival, determination, and hope. Returning to Kilimanjaro, the scene she visited just weeks before her life-altering incident, symbolizes a full circle in her remarkable journey of recovery and resilience. The six-day expedition will pose unique challenges for Sarah, climbing with two prosthetics. A dedicated team of medical professionals, including trauma physio Cat Weber, prosthetic rehabilitation physio Kat Sizer, and osteopath movement specialist Elisha Elliott, will support her every step of the way.

This climb transcends personal achievement; it is a mission to impact lives positively. Sarah and her team have partnered with STAND, a charity that supports amputees in conflict zones and developing countries, aiming to raise £25,000. This effort seeks to extend hope and tangible support to those who have endured limb loss under dire circumstances. Sarah and her family invite the global community to join their cause, urging individuals and corporations to contribute to their fundraising efforts. Corporate sponsors, including Janus Henderson, the Investment Association, Purple Transform, and Rothesay, have already shown their support for this remarkable cause.

“We’re not just climbing a mountain; we’re hoping to lift the spirits and change the lives of those who have lost so much,” Sarah shared. “This climb symbolizes our family’s journey, our struggles, and our triumphs. But more importantly, it’s a call to action for anyone who believes in the power of community, compassion, and change.”

For those moved by Sarah and her family’s journey, contributions can be made through their official fundraising page. As Sarah and her family ascend Kilimanjaro in August 2024, be part of a story that transcends borders, bringing hope and support to amputees worldwide.
